Veins have valves inside them which prevent the blood from moving downwards. Varicose veins are venous dilations; they can be various sizes, appear in the lower limbs, and are caused by the defective closing of said valves (valvular insufficiency). They have a dilated and twisted appearance.
Occasionally, they're accompanied by a heavy feeling, pain, pins and needles, itching, cramps, and an increase in volume; in other cases there are no other obvious symptoms. Aside from the aesthetic problem, as the amount of dilation and the time of evolution increases, so does the risk of suffering other complication such as: varicoflebitis, thrombosis, pigmentations, ulcers, bleeding, etc...
The varicose veins can show distinctive forms on women, the level of dilation helps us to see on first glance whether it's an aesthetic or pathological problem.
Spider veins and varicose veins are aesthetic problems. However, in certain cases, its necessary to ascertain whether beneath these small venous dilations (near to the surface of the skin) in the lower limbs, some more serious disorder is being hidden, which could generate more serious complications further down the line. Therefore, a specialist will undertake a diagnosis.
To prevent the appearance of varicose veins, as well as the recurrence of them, it's important to understand that the appearance of them can be caused by multiple factors: genetics, hormones, posture, obesity, hypertension, etc...
Therefore, physical exercise, the use of compression stockings, and losing weight, are some measures which can be taken to alleviate the situation. However, the appearance of spider veins and small veins on the face are difficult to prevent.
The aesthetic type of problem can be effectively corrected, without risk, thanks to a combination of two techniques: sclerosis and laser.

This is a technique which consists of an injection of a small quantity of sclerosis medication with a very fine needle, which causes these small varicose veins to become fibrous and then disappear.
Once it becomes fibrous, the varicose vein does not reoccur in the treated area.
This is a personalised treatment; our medical team decides the type, quantity, and concentration of the injected substance depending on the characteristics of the venous dilation.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Is it painful?
It's not painful; these are injections which cause little discomfort.
How many sessions are necessary?
It depends on the quantity to be eliminated.
Can it be done at any time of the year?
It's advisable to avoid the hottest months of the year.
Can it be combined with laser?
Generally, the best results are obtained when both techniques are combined.
Is there any type of preparation necessary?
No, there is not.
Can one return to normal life after sclerosis?
Yes, you can return to normal life, including the reincorporation of work activities.
Is there any special care needed?
Sun protection is recommended if there will be exposure to the sun.
Are there any side-effects?
This technique is practically free of complications, aside from the apparition of minimal superficial hematomas (bruise), which normally disappear after a few days.
Laser is a coherent, unidirectional, monochromatic light, of high luminosity and concentration of photonic energy.
This is the most precise and safe technique for selectively treating the most superficial of varicose veins, which could not be eliminated with sclerosis.
After the treatment, the skin recovers its beauty and natural tone.
Scientifically, it has been shown that certain types of laser (with determined wave length and pulses of a certain duration) are effective for eliminating telangiectasias (venous dilations) of a diameter less than one millimetre, found at a small depth beneath the skin.
What causes the development of varicose veins?
There are multiple factors: hereditary predisposition, female hormones (pregnancy, hormonal treatments, oral contraceptives), regular habits (being immobile, seated, or standing for many hours), and a lack of physical exercise.
Is it a painful treatment?
No, it's a practically painless treatment, as a system of cutaneous cooling is used, which also ensures that there's no damage to the skin.
Is there any type of preparation required?
It's advised that you avoid tanning before treatment.
Are there contraindications?
It's contraindicated in patients with coagulation and wound repair. In this case, the specialist will evaluate the problem and its treatment.
It's also not advised for the treatment of large dilated veins, nor in people with darker skin or with pigmentation disorders.
When can one sunbathe again?
Our latest generation laser treatment can be done throughout the whole year. Only right before and after each session should you avoid direct and prolonged sun exposure, at least for ten days after the treatment.
Will there be any marks or pigmentations left as a result of the treatment?
No, they'll disappear in just a few days.
How can I make sure my problem doesn't get worse?
To improve the venous return, the following are recommended:
·
physical exercise
· avoid staying on your feet or seated for prolonged periods
·
maintain an adequate body weight, and avoid constipation
·
use compression stockings
In the case of persistent symptoms, consult a doctor so that they can evaluate pharmaceutical treatment.
